How much can you expect to get paid for your story?
We don't believe in making the process of selling stories mysterious or shrouded in secrecy. And we won't lie to you. If we think your story is worth a lot of money - or nothing at all! - we will tell you straight.
Most women's magazines and national papers will pay around £300-£500 for a story which makes a two-page spread. But this can go up to £1000 or even £2000, depending on how good the story is. If it appears at the front of the paper, or is a cover story in a magazine, you can expect more cash.
Real-life stories occasionally make the front page in a national newspaper - and in these circumstances, you can expect a fee in the thousands, depending on how good the story is.
When a story is really good we can sell it two or three times and you can double or triple your fee. Many of our clients get snapped up by TV and we even have a syndication arm to help sell your story abroad to make you even more cash.
In all circumstances, we will negotiate to get the best deal possible - we are writers and story-tellers and we know this business inside out!
Find out how it works from beginning to end as Katy explains the whole process of selling your story.

Do you come to my house to interview me?
"A fantastic job! If anyone else is thinking about selling their story, they should definitely use First Features."
